Cowboys’ Randy Gregory could face longer suspension
Randy Gregory talked about #newbeginnings on his Instagram account
just last week when announcing he and girlfriend Nancy Rodriguez were
expecting a baby girl in September. On Tuesday, however, it appeared,
his old problems with drugs still haven’t ended.
Already facing a four-game suspension for failing another drug test earlier this year,
the 23-year-old Dallas Cowboys player might be looking at more after he
reportedly violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy again, according
to ESPN reporters. It is unclear whether Gregory failed another test or
if he missed a test. Under NFL rules, a missed test counts as a failed
test, meaning Gregory is now facing a half-season ban or more, according
to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The defensive end failed his first NFL drug test at the combine
before he even had a chance to be drafted. Previously thought to be a
top overall pick, Gregory ended up dropping to the second round, finally
getting snatched up by the Cowboys in the 60th spot. The test
revealed marijuana Gregory’s system.
As
news broke of Gregory’s latest violation of the NFL substance abuse
policy, reports also surfaced that the player was checking into a
rehabilitation facility.
Gregory, who was a standout at Nebraska, played in 12 games last season,
recording zero sacks. He had seven tackles and four assists. Gregory
missed the first four games because of a high ankle sprain.
